Siraj Sikder’s daughter yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Chief
Adviser demanding a fair investigation and trial into her father’s death.
Leftist Siraj Sikder, the founder president of the outlawed Purba Bangla
Sarbahara Party, was killed in Savar on January 2, 1975.
Sikha Sikder went to the office of Chief Adviser at Tejgaon yesterday
morning and submitted the memorandum there. The memorandum was received at
the Gate No. 4.
At that time, Sikha told journalists that they had expected that the present
caretaker government would hold a fair trial into her father’s killing.
"We’ve become hopeful of a fair trial into the killing of my father
witnessing the manner the caretaker government is running the country," she
said.
She said they pleaded to the previous governments seeking a fair trial of
her father’s killing. "But, all our efforts went in vain and those
governments did almost nothing in this regard," she regretted.
"Now, we firmly believe that we will receive fair judgement. That is why we
appealed to this government."
During the submission of the memorandum, Siraj Sikder’s sister Jahanara
Sikder and Hafizul islam were present.
Sikha Sikder submitted the memorandum on behalf of her brothers-Shuva Sikder
and Arun Sikder-now live in the United States.
Siraj Sikder’s father Abdur Razzaque Sikder lodged a murder case with the
city’s Mohammadpur Police Station during the reign of Ershad government.
Several persons, including the then police super of Dhaka SQ Mahbubur Rahman
were made accused in that case.
Sikha, however, could not exactly say when the case was filed.
It may be mentioned that Siraj Sikder was arrested from Halishahar in
Chittagong by Jatiya Rakkhi Bahini and police on January 1, 1975. He was
later brought in Dhaka and killed at Savar.
Sikha said they could not file the case as the "situation was unfavourable
at that time."
